MIDI Files

MIDI files are computer files, usually small, which can play music using the sound card on your computer.  MIDI files can be very helpful when you are studying your part in a choral score.

If you have a multimedia computer with speakers, and if you have media player software, you probably can play MIDI files. Most versions of Windows install Windows Media Player, and there are other players which can be downloaded at no cost.  Mac users should have Quick Time.

Singers who find MIDI files useful for practice may wish to consider downloading a MIDI player with channel controls, such as Sweet MIDI Player from Roni Music (approx. $25). This program allows the listener to adjust playback tempo as well as adjust the volume of individual channels to emphasize a specific voice part, when they are recorded on separate channels.

To download a file from this site or from one of the sites mentioned on the Links page, right-click on the file (Windows) and select “Save target as...” from the context menu which appears.  For Mac, click and hold on the file, then select “Download Link to Disc.”
